Joel is a mission driven leader with more than twenty five years of experience in successfully building, growing and leading medical technology companies. He has a focus on executing growth strategies with operating discipline to exceed goals and develop market leadership in a patient first culture of strong values and ethics. Joel has extensive functional expertise and experience in General Management, Sales, Marketing, M&A, and Operations.

Previously Joel lead the $400M+ Cardiac Rhythm Management and Neuromodulation business as President for Integer Holdings LLC, a $1.2B publicly traded medical device contract development and manufacturing company, where he oversaw commercial execution with a focus on operational efficiencies and margin control. He also served as the President of the Americas Division for St. Jude Medical Inc., a $5.5B global medical device leader. In this role Joel lead the $3B commercial organizations for the electrophysiology, cardiology, structural heart, cardiac rhythm management and neuromodulation businesses in the Americas. In addition to a number of other leadership roles at St. Jude Medical, Joel also served as one of the founding members of the Atrial Fibrillation Division management team which he helped lead and grow to more than $700M in revenue.

Joel holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Martha Morrell, M.D. has served as our Chief Medical Officer since 2004. Dr. Morrell has also served as a Clinical Professor of Neurology at Stanford University since 2004. Dr. Morrell previously served as the Caitlin Tynan Doyle Professor of Clinical Neurology at Columbia University and Director of the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital from 1998 to 2004. Prior to that, Dr. Morrell served on the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine and as the Director of the Stanford Comprehensive Epilepsy Center from 1990 to 1998. Dr. Morrell earned a B.A. from Barnard College and an M.D. from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Kelley Nicholas has served as our Vice President of Sales since May 2023. Ms. Nicholas previously served as the Global Vice President of Marketing and Commercial Operations at Hologic, a medical device company, from June 2021-February 2023, where she was responsible for leading all functions of marketing, commercial operations and training, professional education, and communications for the Breast and Skeletal Health Division. In this role Ms. Nicholas led the development of the 5-year business strategic plan and implementation of commercial strategies to drive growth and market expansion in new and existing businesses globally. From 2020-2021, Ms. Nicholas served as the Global Vice President of Commercial for Thermo Fisher Scientific, a medical device company, where she was responsible for leading a global commercial team and led the re-design of the go-to-market strategy. Prior to that, from 2014-2020, Ms. Nicholas served in sales leadership roles at Medtronic across various business units, inclusive of neurosurgery, cardiac and vascular surgery, and diabetes. From 2008-2014, Ms. Nicholas served in roles of increasing responsibility in sales leadership at Baxter, a medical device company, in their Biosurgery Business Unit. Mrs. Nicholas earned her B.S. in Health Science / Physical Therapy from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and her MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.

Prior to NeuroPace, Mr. Greene was Director of Field Clinical Engineering at St. Jude Medical from 1997-2000, and worked as a Field Clinical Engineer at Ventritex, Inc. from 1992-1997. Leah Akin joined NeuroPace in January 2022 and is responsible for the legal, compliance, and corporate governance functions. Ms. Akin has over 17 years of experience as an attorney and advisor, including over 5 years of legal leadership in the medical device industry. From May 2020 to January 2022, Ms. Akin served as Senior Corporate Counsel at BIOTRONIK U.S., where she was one of two attorneys comprising the U.S. legal team, counseling all segments of the U.S. operations, including supporting the launch of BIOTRONIK Neuro. Prior to that, Ms. Akin served as the first in-house legal counsel at Cadwell, Inc. Ms. Akin began her law career in private practice. Ms. Akin earned a B.S. in chemistry and French at Berry College, followed by an M.S. in chemistry at the University of Georgia. Ms. Akin holds a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
